Dr. Violeta Fodina, the doctor of AVA Clinic, and embryologist Andris Grunskis had a unique possibility to look into the headquarters of the largest producer of germ cells and embryos cultivation mediums ORIGIO, which is located near Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.
The core aim of the visit was participation in training organized by ORIGIO on selection of spermatozoids before ICSI manipulation. During the training, products permitting to assess spermatozoids by their physiologic functionality before their infusing into ovum and currently available on the market were introduced to specialists from several countries. The functional test of sperm that is available at our clinic already since the year 2010 was presented as one of such products. This test can be applied if one has to choose between fertilization methods IVF and ICSI. Other presented products and methods are also already implemented in our everyday manipulations of our clinic. The only innovation, which attracted our interest, was a new culture medium that differs from the before used ones by not containing products of animal origin and being maximally purified from admixtures; therefore, it considerably increases possibilities of survival for patients’ egg cell with reduced quality. In scope of the visit, excursion in premises of the plant was organized. During the excursion, we ascertained that manufacturing of products supplied to our clinic does not admit any discrepancies from the highest demands of quality.
We returned from the trip gratified and satisfied both with the seen and with the fact that we are in pace with the progress and apply latest products and technologies at our work.
