The 13th World Congress on Controversies in Obstetries, Gynecology and Infertility took place in Berlin from 4 to 7 November 2010. The congress was organised by the Academy for Clinical Debates and Controversies in Medicine in cooperation with the German Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr. J.Ļakutins, representative of AVA-Clinic, took part in the congress. He attended the block of lectures, workshops and debates about “Infertility and ART”.
The data about the use of the method for genetic material and patients’ analysis prior to embyotransfer into the uterine cavity were presented to the specialists for the first time at the congress. This method has been recently introduced in the reproductive medicine, but it is characterised by very precise diagnostics of patients’ egg or embryo pathology. The first results show the increase in the number of pregnancies and decrease in the number of spontaneous abortions. This method is called “CGH array” and the polar body of an egg or embryo is used for analysis which allows minimizing injury to the egg/embryo.
The data about use of new drugs for hysteromyoma treatment were presented at the congress. This new group of drugs which are called selective progesterone receptors modulators decrease the size of the nodes and loss of blood during menstruation. Furthermore, this drug has no impact to ovarian function and does not cause any side effects, such as artificial climax. The problems of assessment of eggs reserves in ovaries, and use of mild stimulation and IVM (in vitro maturation) in IVF/ICSI cycles were discussed at the congress. Mild stimulation in case of ovarian stimulation is recommended for the patients who want elective single embryotransfer or who are “poor responder” to ovarian stimulation. Mild stimulation can also be used for IVF/ICSI cycles using sperm of donor. The issues on certain aspects of PCOS and endometriosis treatment, fetal diagnostics during pregnancy were also widely discussed at the congress.
