There is a myth, that give up smoking during pregnancy is not desirable for the fetus. Allegedly it causes severe stress to the fetus, which is more dangerous than smoking itself. This is a huge mistake, and an excellent excuse for pregnant women who do not have enough motivation to end the pernicious habit. Smoking is absolutely contraindicated. The more cigarettes a day smokes pregnant woman, the higher risk to the fetus and newborn. The risk of spontaneous abortion, disproportion presentation and placental abruption, pre-natal outpouring of water, delay the development of the fetus and the sudden infant death syndrome, as well as an increase in perinatal mortality by an average of 27%, while consumption of more than 20 cigarettes a day – at 35% are proved. Necessary, as soon as possible to quit smoking, or at least reduce the number of cigarettes smoked up to 2-3. Ideally, an end of smoking would have to be more for 4-6 months before conception.
